Art in Public Spaces
Our Studio Arts Programming class is a dynamic, hands-on experience designed for artists (18+) ready to deepen their creative practice while contributing to a meaningful, large-scale project. Students will work closely with our dedicated instructor, Patricia Perez, of over 10 years alongside renowned Puerto Rican artist John Vergara, engaging directly in the artistic process from concept to public presentation.
This immersive class supports the development of a large-scale, portable installation designed by the lead artist. Across three terms, students will explore both foundational and advanced visual art techniques including composition, mixed media, design principles, construction methods, and collaborative studio practices. Through guided instruction and mentorship, participants will build technical skills, creative confidence, and a deeper understanding of contemporary and culturally rooted artmaking.
Students will play an active role in bringing the installation to life, preparing it for exhibition at community events and public showcases, including the National Cuatro Fest. This unique opportunity allows young artists to experience professional artistic collaboration, contribute to culturally significant programming, and see their work presented in vibrant public spaces.
By the end of the program, students will not only have strengthened their artistic skills but will also have participated in the creation of a powerful, community-centered work of art.
