Comic Book Creation Assistant Instructor
Position Overview
PRAA Comic Book Creation Cohort is a creative youth development initiative that empowers young people through comic book creation, storytelling, and the visual arts. Through project-based learning, participants strengthen artistic skills, build confidence, and develop social-emotional competencies while exploring careers within the creative economy. Students gain exposure to workforce-ready skills such as creative problem-solving, communication, collaboration, project management, meeting deadlines, receiving constructive feedback, and presenting their work professionally. By the end of the cohort, each participant will have created an original comic book while building transferable skills that prepare them for future educational and career opportunities in creative industries.
- Assist the Head Instructor in facilitating engaging weekly comic book workshops and supporting daily classroom instruction.
- Provide one-on-one and small-group support to students during creative projects, encouraging participation and artistic growth.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment that promotes creativity, collaboration, and student engagement.
- Support classroom management by reinforcing expectations and assisting with student behavior as needed.
- Prepare, organize, and maintain classroom materials, supplies, and learning spaces before and after each session.
- Assist with attendance, classroom setup, cleanup, and other program logistics to ensure smooth program operations.
- Encourage students to develop workforce-ready skills, including teamwork, communication, problem-solving, responsibility, creativity, and perseverance.
- Support students in developing portfolios and preparing artwork for exhibitions, presentations, and end-of-program showcases.
- Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, collaboration, and a commitment to student success.
- Communicate student needs, progress, and program observations with the Head Instructor to support a high-quality learning experience.
- Experience working with youth through schools, camps, community organizations, mentoring programs, or after-school programs preferred.
- Interest in visual arts, comics, illustration, education, or youth development.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Reliable, organized, and able to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to create an encouraging and supportive environment for young artists.
